July 29th I will turn 60 years old. (Whaaaat?) For 59 of those years, I had all my original parts. Now some of those parts are missing. Gone.
I’m fine. No, really. I feel pretty good considering I had The Cancer. But my very skilled doctor used a robot and VR technology to remove the body parts where The Cancer took up residence and using video game skills, he took them out. Good thing he is very young and had probably racked up a million hours of playing games before he came at me with those robot arms! And I’m grateful for his skill.
Where did you come from, Cancer?
So how did The Cancer start growing? Did I do something wrong and feed it something that it liked? I’m sure I did. I’m sure in these 59 years, my lifestyle somewhere along the line gave it the fuel to grow. BUT! According to my Doctor, The Cancer I had was the best kind to get. I mean, if I had to have it, better to have the best, right? It was only a stage 1, slow growing and hadn’t even matured into a tumor. It was just a few cells that had plans to be something more.
That got me wondering. I have been health conscience for years. While I haven’t been a fanatic about it, I have always been aware of what I put in and ON my body. But there have been many times when I just wanted things that I knew weren’t good for me. But I can say for certain that for the last 20 years or so I have been VERY conscience of what I’m putting on my skin. And over the past several years I have been more careful of what I put IN my body too. My body decided that certain things weren’t good for me and so it developed allergies…just for me! Thankfully I listened to it. My body had been telling me for years and years that I needed to change my lifestyle and I started listening. But did I listen soon enough? Maybe I did, maybe that was the reason I got The best Cancer and not the worst. I don’t know for certain but I hope that’s it.
Handmade bath and body products.
I do truly believe that it matters what we put in and on our bodies and that it DOES affect our health. I choose organic when it’s available. And when making my handmade bath and body products, I choose no chemicals, no parabens, no phthalates, sulfate free. Because I believe it matters.
Now, some of my products do have preservatives in them. I choose one that is formaldehyde free, but still kills bacteria and yeast and other cooties that can invade those products. I must. Not only do the powers that be require it, I believe it’s better to have that than the nasties that can grow from a lack of preservatives. You do have to pick your battles.
Does it cost more to do business like this? Yes. Do my products cost more than the dollar store stuff? Hell yes! Is it worth it to spend a little more for high quality, no chemical, gentle on your skin and healthier for your body products? You betcha!
Phthalates, Parabens, Cancer?
Is it true that phthalates are a cause of cancer? Phthalates are a major cause of concern among people at high risk of cancer due to their potentially toxic effect.
What are parabens and are they bad for you? Chemicals such as phthalates and parabens can interfere with the body’s hormones, most notably reproductive hormones such as estrogen and testosterone. The possible health risks could include chronic diseases, cancers and a host of developmental disorders and fertility problems .
So, where does that leave you? What do you want for you and your family? Chemical laden products that can (and will eventually) cause more harm than good? Is it worth saving a couple dollars now to use potentially harmful products? I don’t think so. I think an ounce of prevention is worth POUNDS of cure!
The reason I opened my store and started making products with less chemicals, less harmful ingredients is for this simple fact, I want everyone to have better skin care alternatives. Just like I started doing for MY family over 20 years ago.
Read those labels. Look up ingredients. Ask questions. Spend a few dollars more for some peace of mind. Start small, buy the good soap, the handmade lotion, the lip balm with only 5 simple ingredients (that WORK). Your skin will look and FEEL different. And your body will thank you by working properly and not growing anything that needs to be taken out by a robot in a VR session by a former video game player. (thank you Doc!!)
